Lying Can't Save Your Behind

How many times have you ever lied? You lie you get in trouble, which follows up to another lie which you think that will get you out of the trouble that you are in. Well, that lie will just keep on piling up on more lies which will cause you to get in to more trouble. But lying is a typical thing for a kid to do. But for a grown man at the age of thirty-one, that’s just sad and disappointing. For a grown man to make up a lie then lie again and again and again until it just blows up in your face.
Thirty-one year old Plaxico Burres is a wide receiver for the New York Giants. People call him a "young rookie" but he really isn’t. Burres has been in the National Football League for seven years. He spent a few years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they let him go. The Steelers clearly knew that he was a play maker but not a team player. So they let him go as a free agent, who was then picked up by the New York Giants, which he currently plays for now.
Burres helped the Giants go to last years Super Bowl against the New England Patriots which he scored the winning touchdown. Gotten himself in trouble in Pittsburgh, Burres is now in trouble again. This past weekend, Burres went to a club in New York. Going in to the club, Burres was carrying a gun in his pants, without, a license. The gun then dropped down his pants and down his pant leg. While attempting to grab it, he accidentally shot himself in the thigh. The damage wasn’t too bad, but he was bleeding a lot. Finally he went to the hospital, which were he used a false name while checking into the E. R. His story that he told the doctor was "I was in Apple Bee’s, when someone in there with a gun, shot me.", talk about "Felling Good in the Neighborhood".
The doctor then discovered that he was lying and recognized him as Plaxico Burres. Burres clearly knew that he was carrying a gun around without a license. So what he did was turn himself into the police. When he told the cops his story, he twisted it around from what he told the doctor. He told the police that he was in a club when someone shot him. The officers knew something was up, so they put the whole thing under investigation. After questioning Burres one more time after his buddy who went tot the club with him, ratting him out that he had the gun, and that he shot himself, Burres pleaded not guilty that he didn’t pull the trigger.

The Oldie's

Back in the day many great players played the sport of football but two star running backs are famous for being purely amazing. Thurman Thomas played since 1988 to 2000. Thurman Thomas is the running back for the Buffalo Bills until 2000 where he played one year for Miami. Thurman Thomas is a 5 time pro bowler, has 4 consecutive superbowl apperances, made it to the football hall of fame class 2007, and won NFL MVP in 1991. Over his years of playing he has over 12,000 yards for rushing that led him to 65 touchdowns. He has 4458 yards recieving which has ;ead him to 23 touchdowns. Might I remind you he's a running back he was not meant to catch but he's all purpose. Over his whole career he's only had 50 fumbles! allot to some but remember hes played for 22 years. His fancy footwork has lead him to a great overall career. Barry Sanders has played from 1989 to 1998. His whole life he played for the Detroit Lions. Barry Sanders won the Heisman as a junior, he has NFC and NFL rushing titles, set 13 NCAA reccords, and was selected to play in the prowbowl 10 times (not in 1993 due to injury). Though he only played for ten years he had 15,269 rushing yards. As for recieving he only had 2921. Rushing touchdowns he had 99 and recieving touchdowns he had 10. Ove his years he has only had 41 fumbles. All in all Barry Sanders is a flat out ridiculous running back. Now we compare todays running backs quickly sneaking up behind our old friends records. LaDainian Tomlinson has after 7 years of playing 11,336 rushing yards and 3669 recieving yards. he already has 120 rushing touchdowns and 15 reciving. He's quickly catching up to our old stars.

Burrell, Stay or Go?

There have been rumors flying around Philadelphia that Pat Burrell is leaving the Philadelphia Phillies. Some people want him to leave, and some people don’t. I, especially, don’t want him to leave because he helped our team, the Phillies, go and win to the 2008 World Series.
Talk shows on the radio are saying that we need to win Burrell back. Manuel, the Phillies manager, said that we would do whatever it takes to get Pat back.
Okay, I need your opinion, should Burrell stay, or go? I mean I think he should stay. All of his teammates were saying it wouldn’t be the same without him. We won this championship with Burrell, and it wouldn’t feel right to play the 2009 season without him.
We need you to stay Pat. Don’t go to another team, we love you here in Philadelphia.

For the First Time.....

The Phillies won the World Series!!! YAY!!! For all you Philadelphia "phans", can I hear a For the first time in twenty-eight years, the Philadelphia Phillies have made it to the Major League Baseball championship, the World Series. But why was the 2008 World Series but in the M.L.B. record books? For the first time in World Series history, they had to delay game five of the series because of the weather. The game was delayed because of a torrential downpour, with wing blowing six-teen miles per hour, and a tempeture of forty-six degrees, thereby causing the game to go into a forty-six hour game delay.Until the top of the sixth, the Phillies were winning game five, two to one. But all changed when there was a man on second. Tampa Bay's batter knocked the ball down the left field foul line causing the man on second to score. And of course, they delayed the game right after he scored.Forty-six hours, forty-six hours is what it has come to. Forty-six hours we had to wait to have the rest of game five. And no offense to all those people who aren’t a sports “phan”, you are such a loser to not watch the Phillies win!

Its a B-O-U-N-T-Y

It’s like getting paid to ruin someone’s life. A bounty in football is getting paid besides your regular paycheck to injure someone and get them out of the game. Edward Suggs is a Ravens Linebacker. Coach told him to hit them hard but he can’t spell the word bounty let alone know what it means. So when asked in an interview did you have a bounty on that young man (Rashard Mendenhall) Terrell replies "definetly we just didnt get him between the whistles" (the hit was on Hines Ward too). See in football the point is to hit someone hard so they think twice about running that route again. Yes coach told them to hit them "hard" but the word bounty was used loosely in the brain of Terrell Suggs. Yes Rashard was hit hard and is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Later Suggs speaks of the fact that his team don’t pay each other to get a player out and the coaches sure don’t but yes they do want to hit the big players hard. The point is Bounties are illegal in the NFL, and are a serious matter hopefully Terrell will think twice before he says something he doesn’t quite understand.

Injuries

Injuries are just something you accept when you play football but exactley what kind of injuries are you accepting? Willie Parker is injured with a strained left knee and will not return until week 7. After an injury Rashard Mendenhall the second string Half Back was put into the game. Only halfway into the Game He was struck HARD and that hit put him on the bench with a fractured left shoulder putting him on injured reserve. Brian Westbrook, Westbrook started with a normal ankle injurie due to a hit by the steelers rough and tough defense. But later in the season against the Redskins, Westbrook was hit so hard that he fractured two ribs and with the Eagles Week 7 bye they'll probably leave him out for two weeks and possibly a gametime desicion on week 8. Carson Palmer QB for the Cincinnati Bengals is hurting with a right elbow injury but played on sundays game against the cowboys and suprisingly made out with 23 out of 39 passes with a total of 217 reception yards. Anquan Boldin Wide Reciever for the cardinals is out with a head injury or *Fractured Sinus Membrane* And is getting a couple stiches on his lips the amazing part though is how he was knocked UNCONSCIOUS on the feild and undergoed a small surgery. Last but not least Gus Frerotte got two stiches on his non throwing hand and simply said himself "I think one of those hard-plastic things cut open a blood vessel in my hand,"
But he's back to his normal self once again saying himself "its good, its fine" and throwing 19 passes for 222 yards. Thats whats up in the sports world

Eat, Sleep, Swim Repeat

Article # 1Eat, Sleep, Swim RepeatBy: Madison HillHave you been watching the Beijing Olympics? Everyone knows about the horses on drugs, to the world’s fastest man with a record breaking 19.35 seconds in the 200 meter dash. But have you been aware that six more records were broken in Beijing? He broke four individual events, one with his relay team, and one with most Olympic gold medals received in one Olympics. Can you guess who that person is? That person is Michael Phelps.Phelps appeared in the past two summer Olympics which was Athens, Greece ( 2004 ) and in Sydney, Australia ( 2000 ) in which he received six gold medals. In Beijing he received eight gold medals coming to a total of thir-teen gold medals in his career.Phelps was born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. Weighing one hundred and ninety-five pounds, twenty-three year old Phelps grew up to be six foot four, with an arm spam of six foot seven which gives him more of an advantage of hitting the wall first. Michael may look like a typical swimmer, but he isn’t. His torso is longer compared to his legs allowing him to stay above the water better. He has flexible ankles, plus size four-teen feet which gives him a powerful kick. He moved out of his home for the first time to go to Michigan Collage, were he now trains. When Phelps was a kid, he had a hard time focusing in school. His teacher said to his mom that he will never be able to achieve or focus on anything, but that was until Phelps discovered swimming at the age of seven. At the age of twelve, Phelps parents were informed that he could make the 2000 summer Olympic team, and also that 2004 and 2008 could be a target also.Coming in to Beijing, Phelps qualified for 200 meter freestyle, 100 and 200 meter butterfly, 200 and 400 meter individual medley, 4x100 and 4x200 meters freestyle relay. Four years ago in the Athens Olympics, Phelps would have gotten eight medals if he participated in the 4x100 medley relay, instead he let one of his teammates get the gold medal. Well, Phelps was in the same situation this year too. So, Phelps teammate, the one who he gave up his position for, gave up his spot on the 4x100 meter relay so Phelps could get his eighth gold medal in Beijing. That was true sportsmanship.

Monday Night!

Possily the game of the century. Yes it is only the beginning of the season yet monday night football is getting more and more amazing. Focusing on monday night 9-15-08. Eagle's VS. Cowboys. The Eagle's started out with the ball. The team charged up the feild yard after yard easily but when they reached the redzone a fumble occured. What was supposed to be a simple screen was caught and with two step progress dropped it. It was tapped by an eagle's player hit it into the hands of a the cowboys defense who tipped the ball with his fingers and diving in for a touchdown with the ball is the eagle's offense. After all of that the referee called him down when he dropped the ball so the eagles had to settle for a measly three points for a feild goal. After that Tony Romo threw a 72 yard pass to Terrel Owens for a touchdown and Felix Jones returns a 98 yard kickoff for a touchdown. also the eagles score another feild goal the score at the end of the first quarter is 6-14. In the second quarter Westbrook gets a short 6 yard pass for a touchdown and Chris Gocong of the Eagles recovers a fumble in the end zone. Then Terell Owens gets a short pass for a touchdown and by the end of the second quarter the score was 30-24 it was starting to look up for the Eagles. In the third quarter Marion Barber gets a 17 yard touchdown pass. Putting the score at 30-31 Cowboys. Just at the beggining of the fourth quarter the eagles get a touchdown and the cowboys get a feild goal putting the score at 37-34 eagles. But with just 4 minutes on the clock Marion Barber runs in a one yard touchdown for the cowboys putting the final score at 37-41 a loss for our highflying eagles

The Rookie Who Had a Chance

You knew him as number 5 in a blue in yellow jersey. Thats right, that rookie is Joe Flacco. He was on the University of Delaware. After graduating from college, Flacco was invited to the 2008 NFL Draft. The eight-teen year old was pick number eight-teen in the first round, by the Baltimore Ravens. On July 16th, he sighned for a five year contract with a maximum value of around $30 million and $8.75 million guaranteed.
Flacco got his chance to start in the Ravens opening game against Cincinnati Bengals because the Ravens other two quaterbacks, Kyle Boller and Troy Smith were injured. He completed 15 of 29 passes throwing for 129 yards. His longest pass was a fifteen yarder to Derrick Mason. But his shining moment was when Flacco rushed the ball himself for a 38- yard touchdown. Flacco lead the Ravens to a victory over the Bengals which was 17-10. Flacco was rewarded by starting in game number two for the Ravens against the Texans. This will decide if he does well in the Texans game.
Will our once hometown college quarterback get his time to shine? Lets just keep our fingers crossed that he will have a very succesful and healthy career.
